Brookfield is an average size community located just 13 miles west of downtown Chicago. With the Metra Train running directly through Brookfield it makes for great transportation to Chicago. It's also located approximately 2 miles north of I-55 (Stevenson Expressway) and 2 miles south of I-290 (Eisenhower Expressway). Both expressways go directly into Chicago. Midway Airport is approximately 7 miles to the south east and O'Hare Airport is approximately 15 miles to the north.
According to the 2000 census, Brookfield has a population of 19,085. Brookfield has just about every style of home, from brick ranches to full size frame style homes that were built just after the turn of the century. The average home will sell in the range of $225,000 to $250,000.
Brookfield is best known for the Brookfield ZOO. It's not uncommon to walk outside of your house on a quiet Sunday morning and hear the roar of a lion or a trumpet call from an elephant echoing through the air.
There are many things I enjoy about Brookfield and I think the biggest is how attached the people are to their schools. It's nothing to walk into a local restaurant on a Friday night and see families sitting around with Riverside-Brookfield High School sweatshirts on talking about the football game that night. People do have a lot to be proud of with RB High School. In 2007 Riverside Brookfield High School was rated one of the best High Schools in the State of Illinois when it came to the graduation percentage of 99%. Newsweek Magazine also put RB High School in the top 100 best High Schools in the Nation. |
